Burberry unveils Chinese Valentine\'s Day collection in partnership with Donghua University


British luxury fashion house Burberry is celebrating Chinese Valentine's Day with a capsule collection featuring a 'knot' concept co-created with professors and students from Donghua University.

Chinese Valentine's Day also known as Qixi Festival or Double Seventh Festival, falls on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month in the Chinese calendar. For this years occasion which corresponds to August 29, 2025, Burberry combined its expertise as a global luxury brand with Donghua University's strengths in fashion education.

Revitalizing traditional handicrafts in the context of modern fashion, the collection comprises of T-shirts, cotton poplin shirts, shorts, and scarves made in Italian-woven silk. All of the pieces feature an embroidered knot emblem inspired by knotting, a time-honoured craft in Chinese culture that carries many positive meanings and values.

This initiative underscores our commitment to empowering youth, providing not only theoretical knowledge but also hands-on experience and insights crucial for shaping the future of fashion and luxury,' Josie Zhang, President of Burberry Greater China said in a press release.

'In recent years, Donghua University has been dedicated to empowering new productivity through design, advancing interdisciplinary integration, and forging a cross-disciplinary ecosystem that aligns with international frontiers while driving industrial upgrading. The long-term collaboration between Donghua University and Burberry stands as a pivotal achievement in the university's efforts to deepen the development of its 'Textile + Fashion' discipline cluster,' Mr. Xiang Yanxun, President of Donghua University added.

The collection is brought to life in the form of two campaign films titled 'Love, Unexpected' featuring Chinese actors and Burberry brand ambassadors Wu Lei and Zhang Jingyi who find joy in spontaneous outdoor moments, when a gust of wind or the pouring rain lead to an unexpected gesture of love.
